Movie-Themed Cocktails, Chiswick

Wracking your brains for a romantic evening idea with that special someone (or that nice random you met at the bar last week)? Kew the Movies open-air film season is a good bet. Throw some movie-themed cocktails into the mix and you’re no doubt set to impress.

Taking place from 6 – 8 September in South West London, Kew the Movies will see a range of classic films screened in the open-air against the ‘magical backdrop of the Palace’. And as we inch away from the (brief) English summer days, this means you’re going to have to snuggle up even closer to keep warm (wink wink).

To perk you up/calm the nerves before your fun-filled movie evening, The Globe Bar, down the road at the Chiswick Moran Hotel, have rustled up a few cocktails to match the films that will be playing at Kew. Visitors can also enjoy these after the event (…or even during if the skies decide to open).

On the menu we have (our personal fave) The Peppy, a black and white creation that nods to last year’s film The Artist. It’s a blend of espresso, vodka, Illy espresso liqueur, Kahlua and double cream, with a garnish of chocolate powder in the shape of a musical note. It tastes like a delicious creamy cappuccino meets a fudge brownie. I could seriously not have enjoyed it more and pretty much slurped it all down in one glug (maybe resist doing this if it’s the first date – unless he/she is doing your head in already).

The Pink Lady is Grease in cocktail form – and as you can imagine this drink is pink, fun and rather girly. The taste very much resembles a Cosmo, made with Stoli vanilla vodka, Triple Sec, fresh lime, a squeeze of fresh orange juice and a twist of orange. If he opts for this he’s definitely in touch with his feminine side.

Then there’s The Holly Golightly which is ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s in a glass’, apparently. It’s creamy and fruity but a not too heavy mix of Chambord, vanilla ice-cream and double cream. The drink is topped off with two blackberries on a cocktail stick.

If it’s you footing the date bill, this next bit is sure to light up your little eyes. The cocktails taste like they’re pretty fancy schmancy but they are in fact a darn bargain at only £6.50 a pop, or £10 for two. (So it looks like you’re both on the cocktails then!) The only problem is that the drinks and prices are so deliciously irresistible, if you visit The Globe before your film you may find it impossible to tear yourself away before the screening starts.
