Domestic Sluttery at Something
We’re all mad about our homes right now, maybe as we’re spending more time in them in order to economise.
But how the bloody hell can we save when there are so many things we can buy to liven up our living space?
Last week saw a celebration of kitsch domesticity as the ‘sluts’ from Domestic Sluttery set themselves up at pretty homeware boutique Something, on Lambs Conduit Street, for an evening of shopping and prancing.
Early birds at the event received a goodie bag of cookies and other baked goods, hair slides and quirky postcards. There was also a 10% discount available throughout the shop, the chance to win a £100 voucher in the raffle and complimentary drinks and cakey treats at Kennards deli across the way.
Something sells a range of pretty, and sometimes practical, products for the home although, it must be said, you’re unlikely to find any man-gifts there. There’s some fairly pricey household stuff, but all good quality, and there’s also clothing for women and children.
The whole shop is perfumed with a girly scent, and stomping around such an overbearingly feminine space for a while is enough to make one feel clumsily butch in comparison, especially on a sweaty evening in July. There was some respite from the heat in the little garden out back, where the shed was full of yet more domestic accoutrements.
Something is definitely not somewhere to linger too long if you’re wading about in an overdraft the size of Christmas, but it’s a beautifully designed place with some charming products on offer.
