Chamilia Jewellery Press Day
There’s nothing quite like hearing the words ‘Hi, I’m your driver’ after a particularly irksome day at the office, but that was indeed what greeted me last week as I finished work. My chariot had been sent to pick me up and take me to the Chamilia jewellery press day, and I duly arrived at a deeply fashionable location in east London to see the showroom.
With December not ridiculously far off (brace yourselves), it’s easy to see why the brand wants to get the word out about the collection. The products, which were stylishly displayed on columns in the minimalist all-white studio space, are all designed to be customised; you choose your bracelet/necklace base, and add a selection of beads accordingly. This sort of thing, of course, is dynamite around the festive season – with beads ranging from animal print to punched letters (easy personalisation for a present that packs that ‘well thought-out’ punch), you can pick a look that suits pretty much anyone you’re buying for. And if you can’t, you can always get a selection and let them pick; everyone’s a winner.
I sat for quite some time fiddling around with Swarovski-bejewelled Mickey Mouse beads and making words out of the letters that were available, but eventually settled on a silver bracelet with two beads – my initials. Perhaps if I had been in a different frame of mind I might have leapt on the bangle with, say, some animal print beads, or a necklace with a cute Disney figure on it.
The collection works on the idea that one will want to wear different styles on a day-to-day basis, which is why the mix-and-match theme is so prevalent, rather like an update on the traditional charm bracelet.
Having made the most of the canapés and discussed the charms at length with the other guests, I was pleasantly surprised to find that, when it was time to head off into the night, another car was awaiting me downstairs – a perfect result, apart from the fact that I now can’t remember where that amazing showroom was in the first place.
