Women’s Outdoor Training with Nike

Exercises classes?  For free, you say?  What is this strange universe into which I seem to have fallen?!

But that’s evidently what’s going on – for the girlies, at least. Those lovely people at Nike have taken it upon themselves to call the bluff of women everywhere who say, ‘Well, I’d love to do more exercise. But I hate being in the gym, it’s so boring, and anyway it’s far too expensive. But otherwise I totally would. Honest.’

Would you really? Well, now’s your chance to put your time, energy and sweat (ugh) where your mouth is.  In three different major parks in London – north, central and south – free workout classes are being held this summer, and any women who feel that they might benefit from a bit of fresh air and pumping of the blood are welcome to come along.

To book your place in the classes, you’re supposed to ‘Like’ their Facebook page and follow the online booking instructions. On the other hand, the online booking instructions are to send your name, age and the class you want to attend to ntc@limelightsports.com, so I don’t know if they check your Facebook activity.

The class is designed especially for women, and focuses on strength, cardio, core, balance and flexibility, which makes it sound like a cross between pilates and aerobics. It’s just over an hour long, so it should be manageable. And it sounds like a good chance to get out in the fresh air and appreciate the semi-rural pieces of London.

For the record, if you can’t make the classes for whatever reason, you can also download their free app from the Apple App Store, which shows you how to do the workout in your own time, but let’s be honest here: how many people would actually push themselves to the full without a trainer and dozens of others around? Not many.

Classes start next week:

On Clapham Common on Mondays from 18 July from 6.45-8pm

In Hyde Park on Wednesdays from 20 July from 6.45-8pm

In Regents Park on Thursdays from 21 July from 6.30-7.30pm.
