Sophie Carville

Sophie Carville has written 19 posts for The London Word
The first time Sophie moved to London, Canary Wharf depressed the hell out of her and it was all just a bit too much, so she pretty much fled the country and ran off to be a tour leader in SE Asia and eastern Europe for a year and a half. But soon she came to her senses and moved back to one of the world's best cities, and got a job writing travel articles for an online company. It was all very jammy, but soon karma caught up with her and she was credit-crunched out of a job, and she decided that freelancing might be the way to go. Now she writes articles and reviews for a music website and generally mooches around London having a nice time.

Win a Place at City Academy!

I was heartened to discover that City Academy runs musical theatre courses at all levels.

Manicure at Beauty Essence

Normally, my nails aren’t too bad, but I’d just been to a festival. Cutting them right down before they could get ripped off in a mosh pit had seemed the way to go.

Best of London’s Parks

With a scorching summer in full swing, hands up who wants to be picnicking somewhere green, with some trees and a lack of traffic?

Marylebone’s Middle Eastern Comptoir Libanais

The Comptoir Libanais doesn’t just confine itself to Lebanese food, as the name would suggest. Rather it is a colourful and vibrant extravaganza of generic Middle Eastern food, and by Allah they do it well. Wraps, dips, falafels, tagines, baklawas - you name it, they have it, and all is done with a unique twist that adds flare [...]

World Blood Donor Weekend

Okay, hands up, and be honest:  How many of you have given blood? Now how many of you who haven’t might well have done if you’d known more about when and where to go? Probably quite a few; it’s one of those things, like becoming an organ donor, that everyone would do, but hasn’t quite got around [...]
