Get NIKEiD

Get your creative juices flowing this summer while getting fit with NIKEiD, a bespoke training design service offered by Nike, where you not only have the option of designing your trainers within a private studio, but where there is also a generous selection of models and colour to choose from. Now where do I start?

While sitting in the suite, sheltered away from the chaos of Oxford Street and enjoying my complimentary refreshments, I was fascinated with all the options I was offered. Did I want The Nike Lunar Glide 2, the new running shoe with dynamic stability to support and suit almost any foot? The Blazers, a trendy basketball shoe,? Or the Nike Free 5.0, Nike’s latest contribution to barefoot running? There are over 54 styles and hundreds of colour and materials to choose from, and like most women I’m not great with making decisions.

Being a keen runner I went for the Lunar Glide 2, but now for the colours. You are given a pretty solid selection to choose from and already I was um’img and are’ing. Do I go for a subtle white base or go all out and get bright pink – I can see why some people have spent so long in the studio. The qualified design consultant told me he once had a woman in there for four-and-a-half hours. Yes playing designer is addictive but that’s going a bit too far don’t you think?

I decided on an off-white base, with a purple top and tick. Seeing your trainers on the computer allows you to experiment as much as you want but after much deliberating, I think I made the right choice.

The trainer comes with two sets of laces so I can change them around to suit my mood. I got purple for bright, summery days when I want my feet to look more trendy and white for when I want them to look a tad more subtle. Just as I thought I was done I had one more job, I needed to write something on the tongue. The normal bog-standard trainers say ‘Nike’, but that’s boring so I went for my name, just incase I forget.

All in all, the service is fantastic and I loved the outcome of my tailor-made shoes. It’s exciting to know that the trainers on your feet are constructed to your very own taste and are unique in a way that no one else will be wearing them. The only downside is that the trainers take around four to six weeks to be delivered but it’s ok – you are given your very own ID card while you wait. I placed mine safely in my purse as a reminder of what was to come. For five weeks I showed anyone who cared (and who didn’t) and felt like a kid waiting for Christmas all over again. The littlest things eh?
