The Crown and Anchor, Chiswick

I hadn’t been to Chiswick for a couple of years. It was as stylish, calm and beautiful as I remembered. I love this area!

The pub was a 10-minute walk from the station on the high street opposite the green. The façade is very stylish, and the place inside is huge with different spaces for different purposes: a pub area, a restaurant area and another pub upstairs where there was a quiz night.

Overall, the place is stylish, elegant and feels very homey; the staff nice and helpful. They gave us our table with the menu which changes every month based on seasonal products.

As a starter, my friend ordered the white onion and cider soup with cheddar toast and I had the potted brown shrimp with toasted sourdough. For main, I had the sea bream, green beans, brown shrimp with brown butter sauce and mashed potatoes, and my guest ordered the cider and tarragon battered cod and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. We ordered the cheeseboard and the apple, blackberry, pistachio and thyme crumble with vanilla cream to share. A bottle of chablis went perfectly with it all.

The food was fantastic. My potted shrimps were full of flavour, but not overwhelmingly. My friend’s soup was gorgeous. My main was great; the fish crispy on one side and soft on the other, the greens and the mash perfectly buttery.

My friend enjoyed her fish and chips very much, with a special mention to the tartare sauce. The cheeseboard was awesome for the cheese lovers we are, and the quince jam fabulous. The crumble was perfectly crumbly and fruity; when the pistachios and fruit hit your taste buds, the combination was like an explosion in your mouth.

The Crown and Anchor has a great atmosphere and the portions were fairly big, so we were seriously full. A very special mention goes to the cider and onion soup as a starter. It was the dish of the evening.
