My London: DJ Ian Pooley
38-year-old German-born DJ and producer Ian Pooley is an artist who can seamlessly shift from the underground to the mainstream. On December 28 – this Friday – he is special guest of honour at Reverberations presents RvS at Dukes House, east London – on his birthday no less. Here he talks about record shopping, Daniel Day Lewis, Daft Pink and, err, record shopping…
‘I like Soho a lot for the record shopping. There used to be many more stores but you can still get a lot of nice stuff. Shoreditch is nice too for the new clubs and bars; seems the place to be right now.
I’ve never been to Portobello Road market. No particular reason; I’ve just never been there.
I love late summer because it’s still nice for outside spots and parks, and you don’t die of overheating on the tube.
Going to Plastic People on Oxford Street for an unannounced Daft Punk gig just before they released Homework in 1997 was nuts!
Daniel Day Lewis; he’s my favourite actor. I loved him in There Will be Blood.
My perfect London day out would involve going to Caravan in Exmouth Market for breakfast, then record shopping in Soho, Covent Garden for clothing and sneakers, then lunch break in a park, more record shopping and then off to the pub.
I miss the special atmosphere and the people in London when I’m away. They are always very nice.
London’s best kept secret? Automat on Dover Street. I love it, but I’m not sure if it’s such a big secret anymore.
The traffic, the taxi fares and the public transport system with no proper air conditioning, all make London unique.
I feel most inspired in the London record shops because of all the inspiring old and new music.
Happiness is… a good day at the studio, a long walk with the dogs and happy friends all around.
My new album What I Do will be released through Pooled Music on January 25, 2013. I have many more tracks in the pipeline to be released on my label Pooled Music.’
Ian Pooley headlines Reverberations Presents RvS on Friday 28 December at Dukes House with DJ Asadinho.
