Hair Colour at Jones & Payne

Being greeted with a professional smile, and not overexcited razor sharp scissors, is always a good start to a hairdressing experience. But being met by elderflower and mint Bellinis and raspberry jam rolls makes it that little bit more amazing.

With a chilled-out atmosphere, beautiful chandeliers and the most comfortable of massage chairs, Jones & Payne was a brilliant and luxurious experience. The salon interior is spacious, bright, modern and sleek, while retaining a vintage English style.

My stylist, Charlotte, was friendly, informative and very professional. Having just come back from holiday, my request was simple: brighten up my sun-bleached colour and take as little off the length as possible. My hair looked dull and the many different colours were starting to look a bit of a mish-mash.

Set in trendy Shoreditch, this new salon specialises in contemporary classic cuts and colour styling, while the stylists are not afraid to take on some more challenging modern styles for both ladies and gentlemen.

Before anything, I had a consultation with colour specialist Charlotte about my ‘do-to-be.’ Looking at my roots and general colouring, we opted for a rich chocolate shade with copper flashes buried underneath the top layer to make my locks look slightly more interesting and after 45 minutes of applying the colour I was left to relax and take in the buzzy atmosphere.

Two cocktails, a jam roll and a tasty flapjack later, I was then led to the washing area and treated to a seriously relaxing head massage and wash while lounging in the massage chair, which you control with a remote. My hair was washed and then treated with a peppermint deep conditioner, which not only had a beautiful scent but also left my hair feeling very nourished and tingly.

Not fazed by the time (the salon is open till 8pm), Charlotte blow-dried my hair to leave a new rich winter colour and after a quick fringe trim I was then on my way, slightly lightheaded yet very relaxed.

The whole experience was very enjoyable; the atmosphere was laidback but professional. It’s such a pleasure to find a quirky hair salon on your doorstep that gives you an honest opinion about your current hairstyle and then works their magic with real attention to detail. The cocktails weren’t bad either!
