Chelsea Swagger

Being a sorely disappointed Manchester United fan, having a massage at the Chelsea Club, literally at Stamford Bridge, felt a little like getting into bed with the enemy. Lucky for me then that the massage was so good I totally forgot where I was and zoned out.

The Chelsea Club is definitely exclusive. The gym, spa, restaurant and bar all ooze with class and luxury. Hidden away behind Stamford Bridge I had hoped to bump into a Wag or two, but it was not to be.

Collected swiftly from reception by my lovely therapist, offered a glass of orange-infused water, I was then taken into a quiet, dark room with standard issue pan pipes and dark wood furnishing.

Having spent the best part of a week helping my mother move house I had aches and pains everywhere so I organised this as a soothing treat. And it was.

The wellbeing massage started with a good leg, arm and foot exfoliation, followed by a firm but excellent massage across my back and down my legs. The arm and hand massage was especially good on my sore shoulders, and the scalp and head rub worked wonders, chasing away the tired headache that had settled in behind my eyes for several days, and had previously showed no signs of moving on.

The spa uses fantastic Elemis products, which not only smell great – the lavender oil on my face and scalp was deep and rich and I could smell it all day – but are really effective as well.

The therapists were friendly and professional without making me feel awkward (they so often do in spas, why is that?) and they seemed completely unbothered by my distinctly un-Wag bumps, bulges and bitten nails.

I left feeling soothed and calm, just what I needed after a long, arduous week of manual labour.
