Look Forward to Next Season With JOY

JOY’s new collection provides a delectable mix of pretty dresses and vampy winter staples that will make you want to banish your shorts and pray for a cool snap.

Thinking about winter wardrobes might seem a little premature but JOY’s new in-store designer collection, Louche, covers all the bases.

Making an appearance across their seven London stores from August the range includes vintage print dresses – which will be just as pretty with thick tights and knitted scarves come winter – leather jackets and more sequins than a Ziggy Stardust catsuit.

Covering four key looks, the catwalk-inspired collections are bang on-trend for next season, whilst being accessible and practical – both in style and budget.

The Modern Romance look takes inspiration from old school glamour icons, with drapey antique lace dresses and touches of fur.

One of my favourites, the dusty satin dress (£45) will inject girlish luxury into the greyest of London days and the colour scheme translates across the collection, with barely there pastels and chiffon.

The wool melton trench will be the perfect winter-wrap up with its oversized soft grey loveliness, and it looks a hell of a lot more expensive than its £120 price tag.

But if winter brings out your inner vamp, the perfect antidote to delicate dresses comes courtesy of the Tough Love collection. Animal print, sequins, a staple leather bomber-jacket (£180) and Balmain-esque structured shoulders are the edgier looks across the collection and all have a feminine punky feel – perfect for nights out.

The more gothic pieces work well mixed with the Modern Romance florals and will take you right through to spring. The Eighties-inspired Stellar look has a more urban edge and an overdose of glitter, taking in cowl hooded dresses, sequin disco-leggings and bright digital prints.

For the more demure, the Land Girl look is quaint and impossibly British. Liberty prints and smocked blouses capture the vintage look without being mumsy and call for woollen socks and cute pea coats for countryside walks. The only obvious omission was a selection of good trousers, and with so much tailoring on the catwalk it seems a shame to have missed out at least a couple of styles from their winter collection.

The most impressive thing about the new Louche collection is its designer look, which would normally set you back a hefty wadge of cash. The perfect present for recessionista times, it’s just a shame we have to wait until autumn.

The autumn/winter ’09 ranges will be arriving instores from the beginning August. And if that wasn’t enough to get you jumping for joy, there’ s currently a sale on too.
