Chanel Flashmob

What better way to celebrate the release of the biopic movie Coco Before Chanel starring Audrey Tautou  than slipping on an LBD and joining a sophistcated mob of like-minded mademoiselles for a little soiree?

Brought to us by the lovelies behind QueensOfVintage.com, the event was held as St Pancras International station. ‘I went to see the film and it was just amazing,’ said editor Lena Weber.

‘Her designs are every vintage-lover’s dream. We had to do something to celebrate the wonderful things she did for fashion, so why not do it here?’

As the Eurostar trains drifted away to the French capital they left a classy crowd of Londoners waving them off. One mobster, Sarah, was wearing her aunt’s vintage Chanel jacket with pride: ‘I can’t believe she let me borrow it!’ she said, ‘But I’m so glad I could come along and show it off – it’s such a special thing.’

Part mass-gathering, part fashion parade, the ladies (and gentlemen) in all their finery were more than happy to pose for the cameras and show off their ensembles. And they didn’t have to rob a bank to join in – there were plenty of look-a-like pieces and thrifty vintage finds holding the whole thing together. One of the writers from QueensOfVintage.com, Murray, cleverly brought along her bottle of Chanel No. 5 perfume: ‘It’s great to see everyone kitted out. The style suits everyone, young and old – it’s  timeless.’

‘What made Coco Chanel so special was that she really did design things for everyone,’ Weber added. ‘It’s not about showing off your money or your status, it’s about celebrating individuality and liberating women – she used to wear her boyfriend’s jackets just because they were comfortable! The message is still so relevant today.’
