The Chocolate Meal, Benito’s Hat

To truly celebrate National Chocolate Week (8-14 October), why should we just enjoy the bean for dessert? Why not go the whole shebang and enjoy a dose of chocolate for both dinner and afters? Doing just that are London Mexican chain Benito’s Hat, who will be offering their own take on a chocolate feast until Sunday.

On the menu at all four of Benito’s city venues is the chicken burrito with molé Sauce, a Chocobrownie (drenched in goey chocolate) and, if you haven’t quite had enough of the brown stuff at this point, a chocolate martini cocktail.

As you can imagine the tipple was rather strong. It was also very sickly sweet, so not for all – but isn’t that’s what you’re signing up for when you opt for a chocolate cocktail? Adorned with a ‘chocolate olive’ (Malteaser) the sweet toothed with go crazy for it.

The highlight of the menu for me was what Benito’s does best, its burrito. The molé sauce was plentiful and delicious, with a hint of chocolate but not too overpowering or sickly. As for the chocobrownie, at first glance I wasn’t sure I’d be impressed – it’s all too often restaurant cake disappoints, but this slab was moist and boosted by the sauce, it almost all went down the hatch – but alas, I was defeated by just too much chocolate.

If you’re on the hunt for a chocolate week bargain this is it: all three chocolate treats will only set you back £15.95 (available after 5pm). Or if you can’t quite hack all that chocolate in one sitting, you can buy each dish/drink separately. Be warned, portions are also served the Mexican way (very generous), so to finish will be a feat.
