Jo Lamiri has written 19 posts for The London Word
Jo has worked for over 20 years in national magazines, primarily as an editor and food writer. She is a member of the Guild of Food Writers and editor of Delia Smith's website, www.deliaonline.com. She loves writing lifestyle features on a range of subjects including interiors, travel, health, wellbeing, art and people! She is also passionate about London, having lived here for 23 years - she has a bee in her bonnet about lots of urban irritations including litter, lack of cycle lanes and expensive restaurants serving up sub-standard food, but she also loves London for its diversity, shopping and the fact that you can eat just about any world cuisine you want from Albanian to Zimbabwean! Jo lives in leafy Wandsworth with her Tunisian husband and two children.

Nosh Juice Detox Delivering to London

If you’d told me I could exist on just four smoothies a day (no coffee, no wine, no cakes, no sausage butties), I’d have laughed. But you know what? I did - and I felt better than I’ve ever felt in my life. Oh, and I lost 7lb in five days.

Stop and Search: Teenage Boys Vilified by Police?

Teenagers get a bad press. Hardly a week goes by without a stabbing, news of the rise in teenage pregnancies, falling academic standards…but the ‘stop and search’ law is as bad as the media in tarring all teenagers with the same brush.

Loneliness of the Inner City Cyclist

Cycle-loving Mayor of London Boris Johnson has commented: ‘With no other means of transport, except possibly skiing, can you determine so exactly the path you intend to follow and arrive there so quickly.’ Well, all I can say is that he’s never tried to cycle across Wandsworth Common – or indeed any of the other [...]

London’s Foxes – Where Will it End?

As a London-based serial pet owner (ancient cat died, guinea pigs massacred by foxes but not eaten, goldfish transferred to a friend’s huge tank to live out their retirement, stick insects stuck at for three years… I could go on…) I can’t be accused of not liking animals. I do. To the extent that we’re [...]

Seeing Red on London’s Foxes

With a London population numbering over 10,000, it’s clear the urban fox is here to stay. But it’s a night visitor that divides people: a few years ago I wrote to my local paper in SW London, vociferously attacking the band of rust-coloured vermin that patrol my local streets at night, causing my children to [...]

Capturing the Mood of the Moment

Growing up in an illustrious family of ‘traditional oil painters’, Hermione Carline was always more interested in pushing art’s boundaries. Now she’s selling her work at a high-profile event in Wandsworth where local artists and designers open their studios to the public.
