James Gray

James Gray has written 11 posts for The London Word
At a pretty respectable 6 foot 5 inches tall, James is the person you normally stand behind at gigs. Escaping from rural Northumberland at the first possible opportunity, he spent a while in Edinburgh learning maths before setting his sights on London. Still new in town, James likes to spend his time drinking (potentially) life threatening amounts of tea, reading books while crammed into the Northern Line and falling asleep on the nightbus. He currently works as a web analyst near Waterloo, as well as writing stuff online at night. His blog can be found at: otherbookclub.blogspot.com.

‘The Arrest of Ai Weiwei’, Hampstead

The themes on display through the duration of the play are noble ones, and the cast put in some fine performances

‘Yes, Prime Minister’

The dialogue zips along, with Sir Humphrey shining in his attempts to cover the truth hidden from the PM

The Camden Crawl

The daytime highlights this year included The Camden Gardens, an outdoor stage nestled underneath a railway bridge

The Great Puppet Horn at VAULT

Pangolin’s Teatime pokes fun at inequality, riffing on events of the past and using them to mock people in the news right now

Kafka v Kafka at Brockley Jack

Using Kafka’s work as a starting point, this new play takes the form of an extended confrontation between father and son

‘Justice Tonight’ With Mick Jones

Expectations were high for the show at the Scala. Not least because London is the hometown of former Clash member Jones

Our Days of Rage in Old Vic Tunnels

The question of when is violent action more effective than peaceful protest is debated under rumbling tunnels

Miró: The Ladder of Escape

This Tate Modern exhibition shows Miro’s internal conflict between his realist, political work and his surrealist paintings

‘The Lost Boys’ by Future Cinema

It’s slightly bizarre to be in a beachside carnival surrounded by skyscrapers, but in a way it added to the unreality of the event

Out of This World at The British Library

While the exhibit is relatively small, it manages to pack in a whole load of interesting history and geeky fun
