The Fable, Holborn
Having been to almost every Drake & Morgan bar and restaurant, I was nothing less than excited to head down to ‘The Fable’. The Drake & Morgan chains always have beautiful décor with quirky accents, so I could not wait to see what this one had to offer. The Fable is located in the heart of the city, as are all the other chains. They tick all the trendy boxes with the food being served with impeccable precision and flawless execution.
As the name suggests, The Fable is inspired by fairytales. Chairs are constructed from hardbacks, pages from novels decorate the stairwells, and there’s a typewriter desk with parchment. It’s an immersive, playful place to eat in.
For the starter I had the prawn lollipops which were served in a vintage style basket: I expected nothing less. This was served with a sweet chilli and soy dip. The taste was fresh and authentic, it did not feel like your market brand prawns and I was itching to get on with the main course. For the main course I had surf and turf with a side of chips and onion rings. The chips were served in a cute little plant pot which immediately made me feel all soft inside. The little things they pay attention to is what I loved most about my dishes.
The steak was served with a peppercorn sauce and cooked to perfection along with the lobster. Thank God they gave me a lobster cracker so I was able to devour it in semi-style. For dessert I opted for the chocolate brownie and ice cream, it felt like the most sensible choice. The dessert menu is what I look forward to the most and at the time my inner fat kid was not screaming out for anything. It was nice as you would expect, but in comparison to the menu I felt a little let down.
The cocktail menu is amazing, theatrical and delicious. Its beautiful edible garnishes and funny glasses are by far a cut above the rest. The fish in a bag cocktail will forever be the headline act. It comes in a bag with a fish made out of grapefruit. It does what it says on the tin.
The Fable is nothing short of amazing, with the ever-changing menus I expect to head back down there and be bowled over by their desserts. Drake & Morgan have found the perfect recipe and I hope they keep bringing out more for the world to see.
