Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair

Clear the way, the convoy is back in town. Car park revellers, the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair returns to east London this weekend bringing its usual delivery of pimped up Vauxhalls, big names and high end, low price art in the UK’s most anarchic art fair.

Taking place just off Brick Lane, the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair is a London summer staple with this year’s fair continuing on tour later in the year to the Liverpool Biennial and the Folkestone Triennial.

But cast aside visions of musty sellers and impenetrable walls of VHS tapes, these car boots are overflowing with style from their sellers to the wares in their refurbished Vauxhall wheels. Selling original and limited edition works of art from new and vintage Vauxhall’s, expect to see familiar faces Gavin Turk, Polly Morgan, Pam Hogg, Bob & Roberta Smith, Pure Evil, Jess Albarn and many more. With something for every budget, you can typically grab a prime piece of art for anything from £10 to £1,000, this isn’t your typical art fair. Embrace the hustle of the fair, join a queue and you might just find yourself coming home with a special just-for-the-day artwork by one of these top artists.

This year sees the launch of the Vauxhall Art Cargo, a customised Vauxhall Vivaro packed with art and art supplies letting visitors get inspired and involved in the making as well as the buying of art. The new Go Forth Plinth presents a series of commissions by artists mounted on the roof-racks of a fleet of Vauxhall cars, each of which will be available to purchase – should you similarly like to decorate your own rooftop.

Eccentric, hectic and fantastical, the Vauxhall Car Boot Fair brings you up close to great art, great artists and experience the thrill of art buying without the fear of the ensuing credit card bill. Add this to music and entertainment and great food and you’ve got yourself a fine afternoon at the fair.

After London, the arty convoy will go on tour to Liverpool as part of the Liverpool Biennial (5 July) and Folkestone (30 August) as part of the Folkestone Triennial.
