Spring Wardrobe
Ah, Spring! It’s a glorious season, isn’t it? When buds turn into blooms, snow is replaced by floating cherry blossoms and there’s sunshine on the horizon. Spring is a time for fresh new beginnings and therefore a time to hit the refresh button on your wardrobe. Here are some of the key trends that will stand us fashion followers in good stylish stead throughout the Summer.
The warmer the weather gets, the more excuse there is to get your pins out. This season it’s all about the skirt for me, be it printed, pastel or pleated. Lengthwise? It’s got to be the midi. I’m on the lookout for a Roksanda Ilincic style tea-length skirt (possibly grass green, coral pink or mellow yellow) to team with simple black or white t-shirts and tank tops. Paired with chunky-heeled sandals this outfit can carry you from day to evening. This jacquard number from Topshop does the job nicely or for something more bold this tangerine pleated skirt is simple but striking.
While I’m all for bright block colours, the shades that have really got my attention this season are the super sweet pastels. Think milkshake flavour tones, sherbet hues and sorbet tones. Ted Baker’s summer collection is alluring with dusty pink, mint green and baby blue lace dresses as well as floaty floral maxi dresses.
It’s cliché I know, but who can resist the power of petals? For 2014’s sunnier seasons, flowers are going 3-D providing a pretty but modern twist to accessories. Shoes embellished with daisies, fascinators with floral sequins and mega floral cluster necklaces and bracelets will help you get your floral freak on.
Want something more exotic? Then go totally tropical. There’s no end of prints to choose, from pineapples to parrots. If you’re feeling brave try out the look yourself and wear a pair of culottes or a camisole top with a striking flower print. Hot up your lips with a tropical tangerine shade that’s a versatile winner for both glamour girls and tomboys alike. Once you’re feeling bolder, pair different prints together for a full on clashing but cool look.
The 90s are back and they’re calling for the return of choker necklaces and hippie pendants. Other 90s-centric looks include slip dresses, crop tops, motif tee shirts and shimmer eye make up. Brushing bronze or copper eye make up was the short cut to super sexy glamour back in the 90s. Channel the glamazon supermodel look (just think Naomi, Kate, Cindy and Linda) by shimmering the whole eyelid.
So, as the sun brightens up our days, boldly stand out in this season’s hottest bold shades, pretty pastels or tropical prints. Accessorise with flowers and 90s-centric pieces and add a touch of sparkle to your make up. It’s high time to embrace a season in the sun…
