London Sketchfest 2014

After last year’s inaugural festival, London Sketchfest returns to Bethnal Green’s Backyard Comedy Club for four days of fast-paced, wild comedy, delivered in the bitesized chunks of sketch.

Presenting an impressive roster of well-known sketch artists alongside some of the best up and coming comedians on the sketch circuit, London Sketchfest is a long overdue platform for sketch talent. Having scouted the country for the best new talent in comedy, Sketchfest presents 12 of the finest unsigned talents, primed and ready for the New Act Competition with the hopes of being crowned ‘Best New Act’ for 2014.

Over three days, the 12 acts will compete against one another, presenting 20 minutes of their comedy A-game before a panel of industry judges. On this year’s panel, comedy critic Kate Copstick, The Independent’s Julian Hall, The Times’ Alex Hardy, Chris Lander from Phil McIntyre Entertainment, comedy promoter Andy Townsend and Comedy Blogedy editor, Sara Shulman.

This year’s contenders include Edinburgh favourites, debauched duo Guilt and Shame, two men, one woman, one rat team, Rat (Friday 2 May), the weird and wonderful Heffernan and Fletcher (Saturday 3 May), Foster’s So You Think You’re Funny finalists, Mixed Doubles (Sunday 4 May) and many more of your new favourite acts. And with each competition show priced at only £13 for four acts, that’s some good comedy value.

In addition to the competition, expect a host of variety and feature shows from top acts including Thünderbards, Beasts, The Real MacGuffins, Casual Violence, Pappy’s and Foil, Arms & Hog, the first group to do a transatlantic sketch circuit.

Whether you’re a comedy aficionado or newcomer, London Sketchfest is a veritable who’s who of London’s best sketch acts and those emerging talents we should all be watching, a prime opportunity to be able to say ‘you saw them here first’. Because why should Edinburgh get all the fun…
