Haché, Clapham
The best burger restaurant in London. Yes, I can comfortably say this even without tasting every burger in London. It is just that great. On arrival a waiter greeted us and immediately escorted us to our seats. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the faint smell of burgers was extremely pleasant.
It had me feeling nostalgic and took me back to summertime. The hot sun, burgers on the grill and ice cold cider. The lighting was low, candles lit everywhere and rumours tastefully placed above customer seating area. We sat directly by the open kitchen so I was able to take a peek at the food being made.
Once the waiter gave us our menu, my mouth began to salivate. The imaginative range of burgers was amazing; aromatic duck, roast pulled pork, and falafel blue cheese. It was mind blowing. However, I was immediately drawn to the lamb burger, it being my favourite meat. I opted for the St Patrick Burger, which was a 6oz steak, infused with rosemary thyme and garlic salt. Topped with caramelised onions, sweet cure bacon and Guinness cheddar cheese served on smokey coleslaw in a brioche bun.
At £9.95 an amazing special they put on for the month of march. I was excited to see the live smoking, whether it would be over the top and leave my hair smelling of burnt meat or be very subtle.
For drinks I decided on an Oreo milkshake, immediately after ordering I regretted my decision as a 6oz burger and an ice cream filled shake would leave me in a food coma. My inner fat kid obviously begged to differ.
The waiter bought our burgers out encased in a class dome filled with smoke. This definitely peaked my interest. She carefully lifted the casing, swirling it so the smoke escaped slowly. To my disappointment it was over pretty quickly but the smell of my burger was crazy! One bite and the smokey taste flew into my mouth, the smoking may not have lasted very long but it definitely done its job. The Guinness cheese was delicious when eaten with the burger, but on the off chance you managed to take a bit without the meat, it left a tangy taste in my mouth.
The pairing of the bacon, caramelised onion and coleslaw bought the whole burger together, It was amazing and definitely think they should bring this special back! It is a winner.
Feeling like I conquered the world, I looked at the dessert menu. A little disappointed at the lack of fatty and gratuitous desserts, however once I ordered and ate a sticky toffee pudding with ice cream I began to think about what I had just done. If the dessert menu had been full of chocolatey cakes and maple smothered waffles, I am not sure any customers would make it out of the door.
If you want a choice of amazing burgers, then head down here as they have something for everyone!
