I’m rather fond of the word edit. It implies a careful selection, a creative curation, a pleasing ensemble of words or items. In the case of John Lewis, the EDIT is a monthly occurrence; a themed collection of the best picks across all the department store’s fashion brands. And there are more than you might think. Whistles, Jaeger, Miss Selfridge, Reiss, Hobbs, Carvela. As well as John Lewis own brands Kin and Collection. In other words, there’s a lot to play with.
And play we did, at a rather exciting blogger styling event on Wednesday night. The order of the evening (and this month’s EDIT) was new proportions. So lots of clean lines, unusual lengths and bold prints mixed with plain, striking shades. Lovely ladies Kylie of Memoir Mode, Kristabel of I want you to Know, Melissa of Media Maramalade and Anelli of What I Bought Today were out in full force to style, model and interpret the collection in their own way.
A favourite amongst the girls was a quilted Kin by John Lewis bomber jacket in grey or navy, a simple white Whistles shirt, a standout Reiss coral pencil skirt and a Whistles silk-back sweatshirt in bold blue. Shoe-wise there were Kurt Geiger Carvela courts aplenty in grey, black and that same bold blue (a shade that just keeps cropping up). Plus beautiful snakeskin effect Hobbs loafers (a personal favourite) and sweet black brogues.
With the champagne flowing, hashtag-adorned cupcakes rife (#JohnLewisEDIT) and hair and make up done, the styling was well underway and the serious business of shooting a lookbook could begin. Kylie took a fancy to a wide, simple pair of black culottes teamed with bold blue courts and a stripy breton top. Melissa paired the casual Whistles silk back jumper with an immaculate leather pencil skirt. The DKNY bags went down a treat with a bold blue clutch and nude cross body number making a statement against paired down neutrals. Kristabel picked two clashing prints in the form of Collection by John Lewis ‘floaty grid print trousers’ (excellent naming) with a grey-blue flecked sweatshirt. Boyfriend jeans were making quite an appearance with Anelli styling to perfection with a boxy white Reiss top, black courts and statement clutch.
It was a fun evening of playing around with clothes and a great chance to see all the brands that John Lewis bring together styled by some top bloggers. Plus, the John Lewis Instagram was officially launched making it quite a momentous occasion as far as social media was concerned! Here’s to New Proportions…
