Sunday Papers Live

Ah Sundays. Yes, Monday is only a matter of moments away, you may be hungover but for me, nothing can beat some gentle music, newspapers, brunch and soft furnishings to bring about the culmination of a good weekend – if not a good life. But when the weather is miserable and morale is low as we approach the a-feared festive season, orchestrating the perfect Sunday seems too big a task to bear. Thankfully, help is at hand. For this Sunday, at least.

Presented by Wilderness and Secret Forum, the second edition of Sunday Papers Live will be delivered this Sunday at Cecil Sharp House. With live readings of the day’s newspapers, long walks, friends (a few hundred of them) and of course a full roast, Sunday Papers Live is set to be the perfect chilled Sunday, taking you through from 11am to 11pm.

Transforming Cecil Sharp House into a giant living room with settees, rugs and even slippers, consider this your home from home as section by section, the broadsheets are brought to you by poets, musicians, politicians, actors and writers. And who better to read the world news section than Channel 4’s Jon Snow. Comedian Andrew Maxwell will be the columnist in residence while the 37-piece Wilderness Orchestra will tackle the film section with renditions of the greatest movie scores and soundtracks. Bringing the day to a riotous end, Natty Congeroo & The Flames of Rhythm have music covered along with spoken word, theatre and live folk music performances, those glossy arts supplements will never be the same again.

Feeding comes from The Roast, presented as a long-table banquet hall by eco-chef Tom Hunt and London’s favourite brunchers, The Breakfast Club will be on hand all day and your hair of the dog needs will be more than provided for by Vestel Vodka and a real ale bar. Once you’re well fuelled, join one of the guided walks, workshops and conversations with views from Primrose Hill that will take place throughout the day, guided by some of London’s finest public intellectuals and cultural critics.

Add all this to Sudoku, cartoons, lonely heart, some crafting and, of course, crosswords and you have yourself a wonderfully deconstructed Sunday. Save me the arts section and the corner sofa.
