When it comes to a birthday party, Hackney-based online brand THE WHITEPEPPER doesn’t do things by halves.
True to its fun-loving, cheeky nature, THE WHITEPEPPER ensured Shoreditch’s Protein Gallery on Hewett Street was decked out in an array of birthday-themed paraphernalia. On entering we were greeted by an odd collection of artefacts including pompom-adorned crowns, toy waterguns and rather fetching sparkly party hats. Random? Perhaps. Awesome? 100 per cent!
Guests were young, eclectic and most certainly clued up on their smock dresses. Against the bare, white brick walls of the gallery, the coolest of fashion kids settled down to a Rekordelig or two to celebrate two years of a brand which truly champions the humble smock.
After successfully locating the bar, we made a conscious decision to check out the autumn/winter collection, which was on display amongst the cider and cupcakes. As was to be expected, versatile basics sat alongside trophy pieces, with quirky accessories dotted between dresses.
For me, the standout piece was an open-back, shimmery gold party dress. Worn with slinky ankle socks and simple courts, you’d be the belle of the Christmas ball. Which – by the way – is fast approaching. Other sure -fire wardrobe winners included an adorable navy velvet dress with sequinned collar and a playful faux fur skirt. Shoes were chunky and far from discreet; a pair of delicious pink, glittery brogues anyone?
THE WHITEPEPPER proved to be a brand after my own heart. Not only did I manage to squeal over a horse-shaped bag and the loveliest of earrings, but one fashionista brought her sausage dog – anyone who allows a miniature pet in the building is worthy of my serious devotion…
