It’s time. Mid-September has come and that can mean only one thing; London Fashion Week.
The fashion team here at The London Word will be your eyes and ears on the ground this weekend, hunting and gathering the best shows, looks and general sartorial observations for your enjoyment.
Of course, there are some shows we’re already chomping at the bit to see. David Koma is one of them, what with the consistent drama of his shaping and surprising bursts of colour in a sea of black or white. And Ashish is always a treat.
Will it be last summer’s odd mash-up of sequins, denim and slogan sweatshirts, autumn/winter’s checks and day-glo vests or perhaps something surprisingly simple? It’ll be a humorous take on things, that’s for sure.
A firm favourite is Emilia Wickstead with her immaculate tailoring, all spiced up with a pair of candy pink evening gloves or matching cycling shorts. And speaking of immaculate tailoring, if Erdem’s pre-collection is anything to go by, there’s going to be plenty of monochrome and some beautifully embossed garments floating around.
Bora Aksu’s pre-collection also suggests ladylike but with strong, utilitarian features. A midi shift dress thrown off centre with an incongruous military-esque belt or huge, masculine pockets. It’s prim working very hard.
Questions abound. What will be spring/summer’s print reinvention of A/W’s tartan and camouflage?
What will Simone Rocha do to top her perspex brogue/pink coat phenomenon of previous seasons?
Of course we’ll also be picking our favourites from the designer showrooms and having a browse of this year’s newest addition to LFW; pop-up fashion week emporium ‘The Shop’ which will celebrate British contemporary fashion and launch on Friday 13 September.
Plus we’ll also be tweeting from The London Word Twitter @TheLondonWord so make sure you’re following us for updates.
London Fashion Week SS14 runs from Friday 13 to Tuesday 17 September. Stay tuned for coverage.
