With a gorgeous, award-winning salon just down the road on Litchfield Street, Jackson is something of a well-known secret in the area. Tending to the tresses of a host of celebrity clients, Jackson is the unofficial Queen of colour.
Don’t worry though; she won’t dump you for an A-lister – she’s far too down to earth for that. Jackson and her team were offering complimentary colour consultations and speedy up-dos, as well as a goodie bag full to the brim of organic treats, as part of Seven Dials’ shopping night.
Jackson is busy advising a real-life Rapunzel when I shuffle up, hair frizzy and lank from the humidity. I’m offered a plush, leather chair amongst the bustle of the West End, before being seen by the Queen herself. Jackson greets you like a close friend and – despite the killer blonde locks and super status – is far from your usual snooty West End hairdresser.
Jackson soon gets to work on my mousey locks, assessing my natural colour and skin tone, before asking me what I’d like to do with my hair. I tell her about my desire to go dark (and my hair’s tendency to return to the same blondey-brown shade no matter what I do with it).
Like an absolute pro, Jackson explains to me that the DIY blonde dye-job I attempted last year has affected my hair’s ability to absorb colour. What would she recommend I do to my hair then? I ask.
‘I’d go for a Medium Copper Brown’, she says, producing a colour swatch from the Organic Colour System she acts as UK Creative Director for. The colour is exactly what I had in mind, and seems to make my milky pale skin glow.
Karine Jackson and her team of talented stylists really work to get to know you personally – even if it is a quick consultation in the middle of Covent Garden. I’ll be booking myself in for a much-needed colour revival. I’m known for my fear of hairdressers (I venture for a cut, at best, once a year), but with Karine Jackson I’m certain I’ll be in safe hands.
