DJ Jim K-Tel of Sancho Panza

Jim K-Tel, one half of the Sancho Panza DJ duo, catches up with The London Word ahead of the pair’s 20-year anniversary celebrations at East Village.

What is your favourite area of London?

‘I’m a born and bred Londoner so I know the city well and would have to say I love it all. The people, food, music, markets and energy – it’s all here in the capital.’

What is your most vivid London memory?

‘I remember DJing in the revolving restaurant up in what was the Post Office Tower. We were stationary in the middle while the floor moved around us. When the seating area went past we’d drop it down in to something a bit chilled and then the bar would go past and it would all go off!’

Which season do you most enjoy in the city?

‘I most enjoy the spring, I really love the blossom and the promise of summer around the corner.’

Where do you feel most creative, and why?

‘To be honest, for me most of my creativity comes when I am out of London, there’s more space to think out of the city, otherwise first thing in the morning in bed is a good space.’

Where have you never been but have always wanted to go?

‘I’ve been everywhere!’

Who is your favourite Londoner?

‘My partner.’

What do you miss most about the city when you’re away?

‘The hustle, the bustle and the rush.’

How does London drive you mad?

‘Public transport is too expensive and there are too many cars.’

What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

‘Small steps to the top of the mountain.’

Where do you go in London to relax?

‘Anywhere, relaxing is a state of mind.’

Who is your biggest inspiration?

‘Not one single person but a million things, seeing a blackbird build a nest can keep me going for weeks.’

What would you recommend everyone in London do at least once?

‘Cycle to work, you’ll never go back to the tube in rush hour.’

Happiness is…?

‘Achievable!’

Sancho Panza will be playing an all-nighter at East Village on Saturday 25 May, 9pm til 5am £8 before 11pm, £10 after.
