KTZ Gives Us the Horn

Weird and wonderful are just two words that spring to mind to describe KTZ’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection. But what else would you expect from the fab and fun duo – Marjan Pejoski and Koji Maruyama?

Drawing their inspiration from witchcraft and the power of the tarot (why not?), this collection, especially the headwear, was dramatic to say the least. From horned sunglasses, eye masks with knifes to the widest brimmed snapbacks we’ve ever seen, there certainly was an elemental of the fantastical about it. There really should have been a distinctive smell of latex in the air too at Somerset House – not least of all because Pandemonia had taken their place in the front row.

With the collection identifying the ‘symbolic universe of Major Arcana’ – the 22 forms of human experience that tarot depicts – slogan and prints dominated. With muffs, tees and patchwork fur coats all given the Roman numerals and text treatment.

Sweeping patterns were teamed with an array of textures too, to dramatic effect. Long rubber gloves, high-shine leggings, and three-dimensional embroidered leather were the standouts for us.

In keeping with the magical theme, there was a rich colour palette of sumptuous reds and metallics too. The voluminous coats were a particular highlight – although they did cause a problem or two for the wobbly models.

All in all, this was an enchanting start to London Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013. But then their clairvoyant had probably already told them it would be.

Look out for our coverage of London Fashion Week from 15 to 19 February.
