Julien Macdonald at Fashion Week
Following a two-season sabbatical from showing at London Fashion Week, red carpet favourite Julien Macdonald returned with plenty of food for thought for his popstar frowers at Goldsmiths’ Hall – and even some delicious chocolates.
A regular on the schedule before taking time out to focus on his bespoke, made-to-measure service, Macdonald knows how to make a show-stopping dress or two – just ask his fans Cheryl Cole, Kristen Stewart and Heidi Klum.
Lucky for him – and us – then that the bodycon wearers of the moment had turned up in their droves in the form of Pixie Lott and The Saturdays.
Knowing his way around a sexy silhouette, Macdonald introduced the packed audience to a Vegas-inspired collection suitable for his 21st-century showgirls. As you’d expect, sequins, feathers and tassels were used to the max to create the intricately crafted, embellished collection of bodycon dresses.
Plunging necklines, sheer mesh backs, high splits and hemlines also guaranteed the sex factor – and that The Saturdays would definitely be wearing at least one item on their next tour.
Fittingly for the collection that is guaranteed to make an entrance, colours were kept rich with floor skimming, sumptuous red tassels and a perfectly formed gold, belted mini dress the highlights.
Well, the highlights apart from Macdonald’s own ticker-tape finale to the sounds of Elvis. He’s back, he’s flamboyant and we love it.
Look out for our coverage of London Fashion Week from 15 to 19 February.
