Clements Ribeiro Spring/Summer ’13
No one quite creates feminine prints like Clements Ribeiro, and under the twinkling chandeliers of Goldsmiths’ Hall they delivered yet another colourful collection for S/S 13 to kick off day two of London Fashion Week.
Let’s face it though, when the scenery is this beautiful and you’ve got the perennially immaculate frower Laura Bailey in the house, the collection had to be good. Luckily it was better than that. Taking their inspiration from ‘the urban optimism and colours’ of Brazil, the husband-and-wife design duo, Inacio Ribeiro and Suzanne Clements, teamed chunky flat jelly sandals by Melissa with rainbow stripes and floral prints to create their freshest collection yet.
With fashion having a futuristic moment – in quirky Clements Ribeiro style – they have rifled through their archives to ‘reboot’ favourite pieces and offer a nostalgic and retro feel instead.
Choosing their muse from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, it was all about Suzy Bishop – the film’s 12-year-old heroine – and their trademark ‘off–kilter chic’. With the film’s Françoise Hardy song Le Temps de l’Amour providing the soundtrack to the show, the Clements Ribeiro mix and match approach was given a 1950s feel.
Delving into their archives, Claudine collars, foxglove prints and Mrs Simpson checks were all re-imagined in the form of sleeveless dresses and circle skirts. The obligatory stripy cashmere knits and summery prints were also given a fresh, youthful feel with appliqué floral collars and a monochrome and aqua colour palette.
Lace-panelled dresses and embroidered polka dot blouses also added to the brand’s self-confessed ‘wonderful mix of eclectic detailing’. While embellished shoppers, colour-pop belts, pom pom trimmed pencil skirts and lashings of blue eye shadow a la Suzy provided the fun factor. And if that wasn’t enough, the stunning shimmering slips were the ultimate finale to this marriage made in heaven.
London Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013 takes place on September 14 to 18.
