Rain Rain Go Away (But We Do Love Discussing You!)

Looking out of the window, it’s easy to forget that we’re technically in our summer season! Like us, you’ve probably had to don your anorak and carefully navigate your route through the puddles to work this morning.

Having dried yourself off, the next thing you did was probably moan about the weather to your colleague. How do we know that? Well it’s statistically likely according to research released by The Weather Channel UK.

The research was conducted by media agency Starcom MediaVest Group (SMG) using their proprietary tool Community Igniter, a quantitative, nationally representative survey of 10,000 people. The study found that a third of us regularly talk about the weather, which equates to 190 conversations every second – only family and friends are more talked about. Furthermore, 86% of our conversations right now are about the weather, which doesn’t surprise us at all given these never ending downpours!

Leon Brown, meteorologist at The Weather ChannelUK, said: ‘Our nation simply loves talking about the weather. Only our family and friends are more hotly discussed. It’s no wonder the weather is never far from our minds, as the mercury soars towards 30C hot on heels of the wettest April and the third warmest March since records began.’

Our weather obsessed culture is featured in a new short video series created by The Weather Channel UK that airs online from today. The videos look at quintessentially British obsession with the weather and feature a selection of humorous interviews with characters from the Great British public giving their unique and personal take on the weather.
