Affordable Bespoke Couture

As the September excitement of London Fashion Week faded (well, moved to Milan and Paris…), and post-catwalk blues kicked in, I was thrilled to get my invitation to see south east London’s new fashion kid on the block: Pussy Willow.

This was Willow’s second collection and a good opportunity to revive my fashion taste buds. Pussy Willow is the brainchild of former actress and self-taught fashion designer Amanda Thompson and since its launch in 2008 has gone from strength to strength, with the brand’s signature blouses featured in Vogue earlier this year.

The growing success of Pussy Willow is not surprising considering the simple yet clever idea behind it: elegant cuts tailor-made to fit each individual figure, minus the couture price tag. So any mere mortal can enjoy the bespoke couture service on classic essentials including dresses, coats, trousers, jackets and even bridal wear. A concept that strangely enough is widely available for men but not in womenswear (except if you can afford couture that is!).

This year’s autumn/winter collection features sumptuous streamlined silhouettes made of soft and elegant materials, from beautifully cut pencil skirts to silky blouses to metallic cocktail dresses. I was particularly impressed by the bold coloured pieces so well tailored they seem to hang onto the models like second skin.

So if you need a red carpet gown, an every day outfit or a cocktail dress that is wearable, affordable and made to measure, you know where to go.

  1. What kind of prices are we talking? I’ve seen the stuff and it looks amazing but always thought it would cost in the high hundreds of pounds!

Thanks for your comment Claire. Although pieces are made-to-measure, they’re not ridiculously expensive. Bespoke blouses begin at £240 and dresses begin at about £400.
    Hope this helps

I saw Alexandra Burke wearing a sequined Pussy Willow dress recently and I fell in love with it. How mcuh would I have to pay for a dress like that?

  4. there isn’t enough information on how fab this designer is..
I’m looking around on cyber space trying to find some more about pussy willow-
