Stage of the Art – Bringing Music to Art Venues
July in London is set to be a rockin’ affair as a unique programme of gigs from Stage of the Art at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) takes place in the next few weeks.
These New Puritans will storm the ICA on Friday 11th July in the final rendezvous of an acclaimed season, which has already seen Carl Barat, Sebastien Tellier, Gonzales, Sierra Casady (Cocorosie), Black Affair, Poney Poney, Aidan J. Moffat, Laura Marling, Har Mar Superstar and Poney Hoax through its doors.
Barely out of their teens, These New Puritans have recently blazed a trail of live dates across the country on tours with Blood Red Shoes and The Kills, and their enigmatic fusion of electronica, piercing riffs and dubstep should make for an electrifying live show.
Support for These New Puritans will come from a couple of French groups in the form of: Nelson – an electronic outfit that’s a cross between Joy Division, The Rapture and Animal Collective – and Zombie Zombie, a ‘mad musical scientist project’ based in Paris.
To coincide with the London events, The Kills will perform a special live show on Wednesday 9th July at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.
Specialists in curating and organising musical exchanges between international art centres, Stage of the Art offers a new way to experience live music in conjunction with the contemporary art scene.
Just as Paris and London will reveal their distinctive talents with French and British artists this year, future events will allow other artistic capitals to exchange and share their own respective talents.
Instead of simply attending a concert, fans can discover new cities and cultures in a musical context for a unique pop-rock-electro weekend, and by bringing musicians into art venues, Stage of the Art hopes to strengthen the links between music and art, and build new bridges between European and international cultures.
